Bothered production, Toyota Sales Decline
Sales Page. Toyota-Astra Motor during April 2011 totaled 21 128 units, lower than the previous month of 32,275 units. The decrease occurred because the company experienced supply constraints due to limited supply of vehicle number of principal components.
"The decline was not due to weaker consumer interest, but due to limited production activities due to shortage of components and is experienced by all Japanese car manufacturers vehicles," said President Director of PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM), Johnny Darmawan, in a release to JAKARTA in Jakarta, Thursday (05/05/2011).
But overall, sales of Toyota during the period January-April 2011 remained higher than the same period of 2010. Total sales from January to April 2011 has reached 106 554 units or 14.4 percent higher than the same period in 2010 amounted to 93,154 units. The biggest sales came from the MPV segment that reached 75,291 units, up 17 percent compared to 64,354 units in 2010.
Johnny explains, the earthquake and tsunami in Japan has caused operational interruption supplier company that produces a number of important components such as microchips. These conditions forced Toyota to rationing the supply of components to various countries, including Indonesia.
"Hopefully in the near future, this component of supply problem is resolved, so that production can be improved and TAM could serve consumer demand for Toyota cars which now still remains high," he added.
